My full name is Sarah Ellen Drew, though everyone knows me simply as Ellen. I’m a passionate Humanist, believing in kindness, compassion, and living fully in the here and now. I’m a proud member of the Caledonia Humanist Association and am authorised by National Records of Scotland to conduct legal Humanist weddings across the country.
Professional Experience
My professional life has been wonderfully varied. I’ve spent most of my career in Assisted Reproduction as a Clinical Embryologist – helping create “test-tube babies” and supporting thousands of couples across Scotland. It’s been a privilege to be part of so many life-changing moments. Alongside that, I’ve also been a foster carer, with our family welcoming fifteen young children over the years. Both roles have taught me to listen deeply and to understand what truly matters to people.
I also teach aerobics and occasionally work as a supporting artist in film and television – experiences that have given me confidence in public speaking and a flair for storytelling, both of which I bring to my ceremonies.
More about me
At home, I’m happily married with four grown-up sons, and we’re often described as a very close-knit bunch. I love cooking, baking, and singing, and I’m a proud member of a Makaton choir, which combines sign language and song to make music inclusive for everyone.
As I gradually wind down my NHS career, I’m thrilled to dedicate more time to being a Humanist Celebrant – a role that feels like the perfect blend of everything I value: people, stories, love, and celebrating life’s most meaningful moments.
